a microsoft .docx file WILL NOT "RUN", NOT even on windows !!!
it is NOT a program to be ran
it is a document file formatted in the windows office format

in a word processor
on Windows that is MS's MS "office 365 "
or on windows and Mac and Linux
OpenOffice or LibreOffice
there is NO program called "linux mint"
there is a COMPUTER OPERATING SYSTEM called "linux mint"
just like there is a computer operating system called "Windows 7 "
windows 7 is NOT a program to be "ran"
nor is a linux based Operating system .
Good points, but I don't think that we needed the rant.
Another way to try opening the file in Linux is to save it in a differnt word format such as .doc and then try to open it agin in Linux. Hopefully a different word format will open the file on you computer.

desbrenda, you need to consider some things:
The people you're telling to 'get a life', are the ones volunteering their time to try to help you. NONE OF US make anything from helping people here.
You have repeatedly ignored people when they told you the answer to your question. Your file WILL open in Libreoffice...yet you haven't told us if you've tried it. Again, run Libreoffice...click "File", then click "Open", then select your file. That's it...just like you would in Microsoft Word.
Part of getting an answer to your question, is listening to what you're told. We have had to ask things repeatedly, just to get a clue as to what kind of file you were trying to open.
If you don't understand the difference between a file and a program, you should ask a friend to help you, or stick with Windows. Sorry to sound harsh, but asking questions that may have VERY involved answers (when you don't understand the basics), is fairly pointless.
We will always be happy to help you...but you need to participate in the process by answering questions clearly, and giving complete details. No one, anywhere, on any forum, about any topic, can answer questions without those things.
As I always explain to people, it isn't what we say to others that affect them, it is how we say it.
Different people have different amount of data in their brains/mind and they do process all what is in there or going there in different way and speed, according to that amount of data already processed in their minds.
It is then more difficult when some of that data or part of it is "corrupted", because first there must be a process to clear it up and only then, to upload the any new information in a proper order to avoid confusion, misinterpretation, or yet the loss of data on transfer, and here is the field where we deal with other human beings not machines.
We the tech guys many times well equiped with data to deal with all different types of problems related to the machines belonging to that people coming here for a solution, and exactly in this point we sometimes may forget that we are not dealing with the machine but with the person in the other side of the line/connection, because the machine is the thing in the middle between us human beings, no one to be blamed here, no one's fault.
The real question is: How conscious are we, that the other person is also conscious and we all have the common knowlodge about our mutual consciousness?
The answer: sadly very few.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I disagree. This has nothing to do with "mutual consciousness" or anything else; the OP took offense, and while it may have been justified, the OP must also realize THEIR role in the process too.
To paraphrase your post "We, the tech guys, many times are asked questions which make little or no sense, because the user hasn't shown effort on their part". No one is asking the OP to be able to debug code, write a program, etc....just tell us the extension of a file, what created it, and what you tried. Those are basics. I cannot BEGIN to tell you how many times I've had people ask me to restore files for them...but can't tell me where the file was, what it was called, what created it, when it was created/deleted, etc. ANYONE using ANY machine needs to know the basics...is it plugged in? Turned on? How do you use it? If they don't, there is NO AMOUNT of tech support that will fix that issue, for ANY machine, be it a television, computer, or a stapler.
If you take your car to a mechanic, they don't expect you to know what's wrong...but they DO expect you to be able to DESCRIBE WHAT ITS DOING. Telling them "My car doesn't go...and a friend said it could be something about a plug or something", tells them nothing, and getting frustrated when they ask you about it isn't good. This is the same situation.

I did not comment on ANYTHING you said, and the OP's posts were not very clear. It took several tries to even get a file extension of of them, and going back to post #3, the OP said it was a word file, that they were trying to open in Wine. Post #4 asked for details about the file to verify it (wasn't provided). I, and THOUSANDS of other people, have no problems opening .docx files in Libreoffice every day. Which is why the OP was asked to do something..which they didn't do. For all we know, the EXTENSION was .docx, while the file was ZIP'ed for transfer...which would CERTAINLY make Libreoffice fail to open it.
