I have had no joy running anything at all. I'd like to get it running photoshop and dreamweaver and maybe a few games. So far, nothing but a load of errors.

I have had no problems with it. If you are getting issues, head over to www.frankscorner.org - I have had Photoshop 7, Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX and other programs running under it.

i think its great, cause i can play my counter-strike ;-) (amongst other not-as-frequently played games)

I have had good and bad results with it, I bought the Suse Winerack CD so I could maybe play a few games and install the crossover plug-ins for my Netscape.. The plug-ins work and I can play some of my game but not all on the winex.. (C+C RedAlert 2, Red Faction, Sim City 3000 etc.. ) But I have had no luck with getting TFC or Counterstrike to run yet, I'm probably going to try to use normal wine for that.

The idea is great, but running it isn't. Hopefully one day they will get it running smoother. I'm sure it's a really hard project to be able to work out all the kinks.

Lets just say this, I use my one dual boot to boot into Windows if I need to run an application made for Windows that Linux doesn't have an equivalent of. All other times I'm in Linux cause I tend to find alternatives for the Windows programs.

waste of time. I'm on the prowl for a piece of crap computer to slap Win98 on as my own special "wine" box, cuz certainly no version of Wine will run anything besides Notepad on my system.

although there are very nice Merlot's and Cabernet
Sauvignon's around .... :*)

Amongst the whites I like Riesling and Pinot Gris best...
or a nice Gewuerztraminer with a hot curry :)

Does WineX applies here? Because I love WineX, but I really cannot get a single program to run under the ordinary wine :S

i never had any success with wine. then i tried winex. it took 2 hours to compile, and i had to play around with the configuration, but i got it working on one computer. seemed to run great. the next day i couldn't even get it to run notepad, much less anything else i had been running. all other software for linux that's as old as wine seems to run at least halfway decent, even stuff that's newer. wine's been around for a while and it's as bad now as it ever was. it's almost as if nobody's working on it at all. if i had the free time i'd work on it myself. it's so aweful, i think i might just have to make some time to work on it, cause it needs quite a bit of work. it makes sense that they use the date as the version, cause i don't think that they could get away with using anything newer than version 0.10 if they were to use traditional version nomenclature. it is understandable how insanely pathetic it is considering what they are trying to emulate doesn't even run smoothly in native mode. although i can't quite ever seem to get wine working, i'd rather waste my time trying to get it work than waste any more time contributing to the richest man ever in the history of the entire frickin universe.

but can you play CS 1.6??

to tell ya the truth i never tried it yet, but did attempt it, but stopped for one reason...
i use winex, and to run steam you have to have IE6, but the thing is, is that the installer says i have to reboot windows but to my knowledge winex doesn't come packed with wineboot or an equivalent so i can't do it, and do a fake reboot ... so what i have to do, is get rid of winex, and install one of the latest versions of normal wine to even begin to attempt where i left off ....
so for the time being i still jump on 1.5 servers, to get my fix

i heard steam isn't stable under windows, much less wine. maybe i'll add it to my list of things to boycott along with microsoft, red hat, sco, the riaa, etc.

This program (Wine) will waste you tons of time than any software on Linux.With the waste of your time,it doesn't guarantee you that it will run smoothly and without problems.I have installed it with Dreamweaver but no luck.Dreamweaver either hanged up or couldn't open file and tons of problems.Maybe I have to choose VMware although it costs money.

well if it works or not thats just how the wheel turns...not everyone is going to have the same success as others, and some may not succeed at all...
as of it being a waste of time, i have to differ, cause other than the make dep && make it took me 10 - 15mins to have wine completely set to run whatever it could ....
so no i wouldn't say its a waste of time...
cause i know i get to play a few of my games without a hitch ;-)
