wine success?
What sort of programs have people gotten to work with wine? I've tried several with no success. I have tried using it to run the internet explorer setup which it starts to but stops at 81 percent. I've tried to use it to get windows media player working and it says something about needing to update. Those were tthe only two i can think of recently that i've tried.

I have used several programs with Wine, including some games (Championship Manager, most notably). Check the Wine app database for tips and tricks on how to get programs working.

Well, Spider solitaire works fine. :-) That's about as far as I've managed to run succesfully. That's also just about all I've tried. I don't really have any need for Windows-software on my desktop, save for Sim City 4. Experimenting with Cedega (winex) now...
My friend told me he had a working Photoshop anyway. I suggest you take a look at WINE homepage if you already haven't.

I've tested Word, Steam, Counter Strike, Notepad, Poker Stars Client, and Poker Analyzer just to name a few.

I have tested Photoshop , Office 200 suite, tmpMpegEnc to name a few.
In addition, many .exe based zip files also can be extracted without any trouble using wine.

Have tried tons of programs... only have problems with those that use the MSI Installer.
Lotus Notes R4, R5, R6.5 - 6.5.3
Microsoft Office (on Windows Partition)
Diablo 2
Starcraft
WinRAR
Running Wine 20041019 on a Thinkpad 390E (300MHz, 256MB RAM) and Diablo runs at native speed!
For those who don't have it... grab WinesetupTK, it makes life a whole lot easier.

NACK that, winesetuptk is deprecated and no longer works. We're developing a replacement tool called "winecfg" but it's not activated yet.
