wine problem

Hi there!

I have a problem getting to work wine properly. I have downloaded the newest rpm-Package (for Fedora Core 3) and installed it (rpm -Uvh ...). No problems so far.

Then I wanted to test the software by installing winzip. The winzip Installer starts up, but when I press setup I get the following error Message from the Winzip Self-Extractor:

"Unable to create a temporary folder to extract to.

Possible Cause: You do not have proper permissions to create files or folders in your temporary folder. See your system or network administrator."

But in my config file for wine I have the following entries:
"Temp" = "e:\\"
"Path" = "c:\\windows;c:\\windows\\system;e:\\;e:\\test;f:\\"

Whats wrong??? hlp plz!

I think you are doing the wrong thing there. I would just suggest using some command line zip software native to linux like gzip or unzip. They are as good as winzip but sometimes seem to be faster.

Regarding your error message when running wine to install it i would say wine is not windows it just emulates windows support so a sw would run in linux. You cant install sw for windows in a linux system using wine. But you could run a windows installed version of winzip on linux thru wine, like:

#wine winzip.exe

If the windows file is named winzip.exe and it is in the current directory. try copying it from a windows system and see if it works.

Anyway, my suggestion is: dont try to solve your problems using windows sw if you can find a unix solution. wine is slow and hangs sometimes.

good luck.
