Wine - Photoshop initializes then crashes

I get the splash screen and everything appears to load properly, then I get a popup window that says:

Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked. Use the "Properties" command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file.

I'm using Mandrake 9.2, wine20031118-thac rpm, Photoshop 7 . i just installed nvidia drivers too. any idea what could be wrong?

Are you accessing Photoshop from a Windows partition? If you are, it could be that the filesystem is mounted read only (for reasons such as that the filesystem is NTFS). You could always try the GIMP. I guarantee that it came with your distro. (Sorry I can't help but to promote Free software... its a habit )

if you're not using wine on an existing windows partition, cruise on over the http://frankscorner.org and head over to his forums. this issue has been answered. but you basically need to set a few more dll overrides for photoshop 7 to work.

I had that because:
Photoshop's scratch directory was set to "Z:" -> "/", which wasn't writable by a regular user.

I solved it by:

$ winecfg -> Drives -> drive Z: was "/" -> change it to a writable directory.

Edit: the problem appeared when I moved
~/.wine -> /datapartition/wine
and linked ~/.wine to it.
