Wine + Photoshop CS2 / 3D Studio Max
Hi!
I have a question. Is there any chance to get running Photoshop CS 2 & 3D Studio Max 8 with Wine, or other win-emulator? Virtual Machine is not good choice for me, beacuse my PC won't handle it :D Thanks for replies. |
Chances are slim that you'll get Photoshop CS to work. Photoshop 7 works pretty well under wine (but right click menus don't work for me, which isn't too big a deal).
Not sure about 3DS Max, but I wouldn't count on it. You could always try Blender though :) |
Hmm
I've searched a bit, and found something, which is called CrossOver. Do you have any experience with using it? |
look here
http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=1815 for photoshop cs photoshop cs 2 seems possible but with a hack http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=2631 3d stdio max looks like a no no. Try bender it is ment to be very good professional quality. crossover office has the same compatability as wine (as cross over office supports wine and both contribute code to each other) but a better U.I and support., Support for some titles means that you know supported titles will work. Photoshop 7 seems to work with cross over, but not cs. http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibi.../name?app_id=8 It is worth comming back and checking wines application database and crossover office support list every few months as thing change very quickly and some things that did not work at all a few months ago can suddenly be fixed. Or some one may have come out with a better hack. |
weird, 'coz i found CS2 at CrossOver compatibility list:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibi...me?app_id=1288 ...and the same with 3D Max 8: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibi...e/?app_id=1794 Hmm actualy it is not tested yet, but it appear on the list. |
Well, I've tried with no avail to make CS, 7.0 and CS2 to work without any neccessary Windoze install first, so if you haven't got a Windoze partition/HD around where to install PS you're mostly out of luck :( I've had to put with GIMP in the meanwhile... :/
And about 3DSMAX... I tried testing R3 with Wine and didn't work either, so I doubt 8 will work :P |
Well, i think i'm lucky, 'coz I have little brother, which actually needs Windoze partition (he's seek about games :P) :)
|
cs2 may be on the list but it is not supported so it is no better than wines entry. You may get it to work with some serious hacking.

I don't mean cracking.
I am no wine expert but I have a few programs i am trying to get to run. Some people have things where they have to use wines regedit, otheres seem to have little shell scripts. Other programs require installing in windows then copying accross some files and registry enteries. Lotts of random things. Other programs just work out of the box. Just check out the wine application database for some examples. E.g Flash, matlab |
