Lightbulb wine or winex?

Hi friends,

I was wondering, can winex substitute wine?
I mean, we all know winex is planned for games, but can it run applications like office and so on as well as wine does?
Is there a reason why should I prefer wine instead of winex?

yes you can substitue if you wish....i seen office apps run flawlessly in winex, so there is no real issue, if you want to run winex instead of wine....if you actually think about it, you'll have more luck with winex, cause it will basically run anything wine can, plus hundreds of more games...
so if you obtained a copy of winex, then that will suffice...
i have winex running on my box, and although i am a gamer, there has been nothing i couldn't run in winex that i ran in wine, referring to non-games of course....
so in the end the answer to your final question, there is no reason why you should consider wine over winex, UNLESS you don't play games, and if thats the case, then wine is all you need..... or another alternative if you just want office apps to run is to get codeweavers wine...

Actually.. transgaming who makes winex figured out it's quite good for running apps too. They made a new division for handling that with a new program, a work of winex I beleive.
It was in a newsletter a while back.
But no, in genenral wien runs apps better, while winex runs games better. The filed is preety much equalising in favour of wine these days. Wine runs preety much every game winex runs just about as fast, and just about as well. A lot of the winex directx code was ported back into wine about a month ago or so.
