running: Linux Mandrake 9.2
Hi everyone, I recently made the switch over to linux for good. I only brought my linux box home from college over spring break and picked up a lot so I felt that I should just dive into the deep end and hope I don't drown
.
Ok well here is my dilemma, I recently downloaded the newest .rpm of Wine and also used Wine tools from
http://franksworld.net/ I pretty much installed all you could from his program. After reading more into the wine documentation I found I could configure wine to work with a existing windows hd or partition. Well I have my old windows hard drive hooked up as the slave and would like to get it to work with wine.
Yes yes I know your saying read the documentation and do a search well I have been working on this for the past week and felt it was time to get some direct help. Ok first my windows hard drive is mounted as hd. I changed wine config to have:
[Drive C]
"Path" = "/mnt/hd"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
[Drive E]
"Path" = "/tmp"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "Tmp Drive"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
[Drive F]
"Path" = "%HOME%"
"Type" = "network"
"Label" = "Home"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
[Drive Z]
"Path" = "/"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "Root"
"Filesystem" = "win95"
and if this helps:
[wine]
"Windows" = "c:\\windows"
"System" = "c:\\windows\\system"
"Temp" = "e:\\"
"Path" = "c:\\windows;c:\\windows\\system;e:\\;e:\\test;f:\\"
"Profile" = "c:\\windows\\Profiles\\Administrator"
"GraphicsDriver" = "x11drv"
;"ShowDirSymlinks" = "1"
;"ShowDotFiles" = "1"
"ShellLinker" = "wineshelllink"
Im not sure if this is configured correctly but programs seem to start and load up but get errors when Im trying to install things. Im thinking the permissions are messed up or something
I think a big reason is a problem with my fstab. When I hooked up the hard drive the permissions were so I could not read/write to the drive well i did some searching and found out how to correct this. Maybe take a look and notice anything I dont need in here etc.
My Current fstab is :
/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda1 /win98 vfat uid=500,gid=500,umask=000,exec,dev,suid,rw 1 0
/dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
none /mnt/hd supermount dev=/dev/hdb1,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,kudzu 0 0
also on the startup when I do verbose it lists the /win98 mount had an error and /hd has errors. Im hoping to learn more about linux so please if your going to tell me what to do explain why I am doing it so if it happens in the future I wont have to bug you again haha well cheers to anyone who could help.
