well you have to realize that not everything is supported in wine....there is some things that just can't be ran....the best you can do is conduct searches on this site or use search engines such as google to see if anyone has the trick to running your specific problem program....or just run the command from the terminal that you would use to open the program you want and post the error you are getting....maybe someone will see something that catches their eye and may be able to give you a fix..

i have had some lucky running odd programs under transgamings winex the only draw back is u have to pay for it .
i have gotten world book encylopedia to run under it and a old tutorial for windoze 98 BUT BE CAREFUL i locked up my system several times trying unsupported apps.It is made mainly for games i think

well the other end of that is, is that you can get winex for free through CVS, so if you do want to attempt it with winex then you know what to do instead of paying

This is what is displayed when I try to run one of the setup prog.......

[michael@localhost michael]$ wine /mnt/cdrom/setup
file_set_error: Permission denied
fixme:ntdll:RtlNtStatusToDosError no mapping for 0001869f
FIXMEthread_cond_init
mcop warning: user defined signal handler found for SIG_PIPE, overriding
err:wave:ARTS_WaveInit arts_init() failed (-1)
file_set_error: No such file or directory
fixme:ntdll:RtlNtStatusToDosError no mapping for 0001869f
FIXMEthread_cond_init

does not matter if I run from cd-rom, HD, or under super user terminal. Gives me the same thing
