wine issue: program can't find the CD

I am using WINE to *attempt* to run StarCraft. It installs just fine, but when I try to run the program, it reports that the CD is not in the CD drive (which it is). StarCraft plays off of the CD.

How can I fix there a place where I can make it look at the CD drive? I know that the directory to it is /media/dvd/

Try creating a symlink in ~/.wine/dosdevices/ called d: which points to /media/dvd -
ln -sf /media/dvd ~/.wine/dosdevices/d:
You can then refer to programs using their 'windows' name. For example, if you would go to d:\install.exe to install the program in windows, then to do the same in wine you can now type:
wine d:\\install.exe
(note the double backslash - that's because backslash on its own is an escape character used to put things like line breaks into files)

You may need to reinstall the program if you use this method, so it knows which drive to look on...or alternatively link d: and e: to /media/dvd using the same method

wine d:\\install.exe

you just need to navigate to the dir where the file resides and type in the cmd

wine 'setup.exe'

check out

Sorry to be a pain, but its not as simple as navigating to an exe file on the CD and running it in WINE. StarCraft works by running an exe file installed to your hard drive which then references to the CD...

Komakino, I tried your suggestion, here was the output:
linux:~> ln -sf /media/dvd ~/.wine/dosdevices/d:
ln: creating symbolic link `/home/aali/.wine/dosdevices/d:' to `/media/dvd': No such file or directory

I could just make the directory myself, but will it even mean anything?

I figured out the solution on my own, and Komakino's point probably helped out, so I'll document it:

I went into the file /home/USERNAME/.wine/config

and added the following lines in between all the other drives:

[Drive D]
"Type" = "cdrom"
"Path" = "/media/dvd"
"Label" = "/media/dvd"
"FS" = "win95"
"Device" = "/dev/hdc"

It was just a stab at it, but at least the program launches...lets see if it can be fasibly run! Thanks again for everyone's help.
