Wine Installation Problems in RedHat 9
I'm trying to install Wine from source. I got the file at frankscorner.org and followed the instructions at: http://frankscorner.org/modules.php?...rtid=90&page=1
[user@localhost /]$ cd /wine-20030813
[user@localhost wine-20030813]$ ./tools/wineinstall
WINE Installer v0.74
Running configure...
./configure: line 88: conf3564.sh: No such file or directory
./configure: line 89: conf3564.sh: No such file or directory
chmod: failed to get attributes of `conf3564.sh': No such file or directory
./configure: line 201: conf3564.file: No such file or directory
./configure: line 949: config.log: No such file or directory
Configure failed, aborting install.
[user@localhost wine-20030813]$
What am I doing wrong here?

Before you install Wine make sure there is no previous Wine installation on your system.
Many Linux distributions come with a Wine package, but this is usually a very old and sometimes a broken version, so it is better to uninstall the old version and install a newer one.
Installation
Extract the downloaded file: tar zxvf Wine-yyyymmdd.tar.gz
This will create a new directory, enter this directory.
Now type ./tools/wineinstall
Wine will now install
After installing Wine the installer creates a Wine configuration in ~/.wine/config and a fake Windows directory will be created in ~/c.
You also need a registry. Type regedit winedefault.reg in the Wine source directory to create one.
After this copy the following files from wine-yyyymmdd/documentation/samples to $HOME/.wine/Windows:
system.ini and win.ini
You can also download a fake windows drive and a wine config file:
fake windows drive
wine config
Untar both files in your home directory. You will now have a fake windows drive in ~/c and the wine config in ~/.wine.
The Wine configuration file
The config file is pretty self explanatory, just take a look at it. The only thing you probably have to change is the mountpoint of the cdrom drive.
You can get more information by typing man wine.conf
|
The rpm file installed without any problems and I am now at the . Type regedit winedefault.reg in the Wine source directory to create one. part of the tutorial. Here's what I get:
[root@localhost wine]# regedit winedefault.reg
Could not stat /mnt/floppy (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:
regedit: Can't open file "winedefault.reg"
[root@localhost wine]#
What am I doing wrong?

I'm running it as root. What directory should I check wine at under root?

well you don't run wine as root, so you don't check for a folder under root....run it as a normal user...but if you insist, it will be /root/.wine as opposed to /home/USER/.wine

I tried regedit on ./wine but here's what I got
[root@localhost root]# cd /root/.wine
[root@localhost .wine]# regedit winedefault.reg
Could not stat /mnt/floppy (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:
regedit: Can't open file "winedefault.reg"
[root@localhost .wine]#
here's what's inside the ./wine folder:
/c
config
system.reg
userdef.reg
user.reg
I haven't tried winetools yet.
