Wine Installation Help

bear@ubuntu:~/Desktop/wine-0.9.1/tools$ ./wineinstall
...
...
...(Left out)

*** Warning: X development files not found. Wine will be built without
*** X support, which currently does not work, and would probably not be
*** what you want anyway. You will need to install devel packages of
*** Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least.

Configure finished. Do 'make depend && make' to compile Wine.

Install the X development headers and try again.
bear@ubuntu:~/Desktop/wine-0.9.1/tools$

How do I/Where do I/From where do I Install the X development headers???

acid_kewpie 11-20-2005 09:11 AM

they will be on your distro cd's. xorg-x11-devel / xfree86-devel

penguain 11-20-2005 09:50 AM

ok i installed that now i'm getting

bear@ubuntu:~/Desktop/wine-0.9.1/tools$ ./wineinstall
WINE Installer v0.75

~/Desktop/wine-0.9.1 ~/Desktop/wine-0.9.1/tools

I see that WINE has already been configured, so I'll skip that.

We need to install wine as root user, do you want us to build wine,
'su root' and install Wine? Enter 'no' to continue without installing
(yes/no) yes

Compiling WINE. Grab a lunch or two, rent a video, or whatever,
in the meantime...

./wineinstall: line 225: make: command not found
./wineinstall: line 227: make: command not found

Compilation failed, aborting install.

hmm, not seen anything like that before... what kind of system are you running? only thing i'd stab at is that the script recieves no cpu details at all for some reason... mind you though, i'd wonder if you really want to be compiling it at all... does synaptic not contain a prebuilt version for you to use instantly?
