Wine installation; Can't find ~/.wine/config

I am currently running Ubuntu 5.10RC. I ran

Code:
sudo apt-get install wine
in a terminal and as far as I can tell, wine installed properly. The problem is that I can't find the ~/.wine/config file. If I do a

Code:
sudo gedit ~/.wine/config
I get a blank document. I'm not up to the task of writing the entire config file. If I look in my Home folder (even with "show hidden files" selected) there is no .wine folder.

At the WineHQ website I read documentation stating that there is a sample config file installed with wine but I can't find it.

Any ideas how to get this? Where to look? Somewhere to copy and paste a new one with no edits? I'm trying to follow the setup instructions for installing IE from this web site.

This is the one thing left to go completely Linux for me. I can't access some files at work without IE. One is the page for me to input my work hours (Hey, I like to get paid) and the other is for work orders related to the system I work on.

Any help in locating the generic config file (either cut and paste or where in the filesystem it went in a default install) will be more than greatly appreciated.

I installed wine on my sister's computer (also running Ubuntu) last night and after installing I typed "wine" into a terminal and it created home directories for wine. I assume it also created this file although I didn't check (and can't check at the moment because I am at uni).

This link may also be useful:

www.frankscorner.org

I think there is a sample wine configuration file on this site.

The latest version of Wine doesn't seem to refer to the config file at all! Now, it seems to use only (its own) Registry; and the winecfg command sets it up.

I could not find the means to read a "native Windows registry," either.

A lot of things seem to have changed in the Wine world lately ... but not ... ... the documentation!

I see that all too clearly. I have decided that I need to take Wine off the system. Ubuntu Breezey set up perfectly on my system and I'm not going to cause myself any headaches by trying to get IE working in Linux.

I went to the synaptic package manager and completely removed wine. However there is still a ~/.wine folder on my drive. Also I used the ies4linux link posted above to try to get ie installed. There is an ~/.ies4linux folder on my drive also. Can these be safely deleted?

Also, Thanks so much for your time trying to help a new guy out.

Update....I got this IE problem licked.

I found this link at the Ubuntu Forums on how to set it up and it was simple. I tried the http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/index.html solution but it just didn't work or I did something wrong. The SideNet setup was very painless.

IE is a little buggy but it works for what I need it for.

Again, thank you all for your help.
