Wine in Centos or better suggestions?

I am researching a solution to a problem I'm having at my IT training school.

Linux+ is taught with text reading, hands-on labs, CBT Nuggets videos, and practice test questions. The platform that is mostly used for the labs is Centos.

The thing that bothers me the most is that the practice questions software and the CBT Nuggets don't play on any operating system other than Windows. This annoys me to have to boot back and forth between Windows and Linux. If I see something that I'd like to investigate immediately, it is impossible unless I have 2 computers up at the same time.

I find it hard to believe that nobody in the school's administration ever imagined that someone learning Linux would want the course to be built around Linux, not Windows.

One of the instructors agrees with me. If I can figure it out, then there will be a lab written to setup Centos to run these software programs. If I can make it work, then future students won't need to put up with this backwards approach.

I'm thinking about installing Wine and testing it out. Even if it won't work, I want Wine, anyway.

Centos is the entire distribution with all the bells and whistles you can get from the latest 4 cd iso image set.

I downloaded the rpm from linuxhq.org to my desktop. I clicked it, and an installer opened. The installer closed off my screen, leaving me with no idea what happened.

I don't think it worked right.

How do I find what got installed so that I can remove it and start over? I'm going to try source this time.

you start windows binaries with
Code:
wine <program.exe>
try putting in a cd or something.

Code:
rpm -aq | grep wine
will tell you the package name then
Code:
rpm -e <wine package>
to remove it

I think your cause is noble ,and your administrators lacking in common sense to run a coure on an OS but have it's teaching depending on another.

I got the quizzes to work with WINE. The WINE rpm finally worked, and I don't know why.
I managed to even get IE working as a web browser, but the Windows Media Player doesn't work. These CBT Nuggets must use WMP.

I guess I need to find a compatible player, but for now I'm just working between two computers. One XP and the other Centos. Another option is to install Windows Virtual Machine on XP and get into Linux that way.

I feel like I'm going to a mosque to be taught Yiddish. It is going to take more complaining from more students to get this fixed, I'm afraid.

mplayer or VLC can do a far better job than WMP :P

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html Check the codecs and the docs, should have WMV codecs
