Wine Graphics Slow

I have been trying to use Wine 0.93 on Fedora Core 4
But whenever I run graphical apps (apps like ie, or those with simple interfaces run fine, just not those with custom graphics)
it slows to about one frame a second
many programs seem to do it
I've tried GTA VC (opengl?), Simtower (1994), SimSafari (1998, direct X) and a few others
But experience the same problem
Any ideas?
