I don't know what Gecko is, but it is available with my package manager. Have you tried to install it using the Fedora package manager?

Slightly off-topic, but---if you have issue with WINE, you might want to look at CrossOver (the commercial version of WINE) They have a free trial available.

Gecko is the html rendering engine used in Mozilla-based browsers. AIUI, the wine project is working to incorporate it as a replacement for the Windows rendering engine that's used by IE and various other programs like the help system.

Debian has an apt package for wine-gecko, and probably other distros do as well. Starting with the most recent version of wine (1.1.33), gecko will be automatically installed when a new wineprefix is created.

For more info directly from the wine project, see here:

Start with your package or software management program. That is the best way to install distro supported apps.

I have used wine tricks but there is a warning that it breaks your disto's dependencies. It might make your system difficult to manage.

fedora wine repos ... sucks!

download the last version of wine .. 1.1.33 I think.

then downoad wine_gecko from :

http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine.../Wine%20Gecko/

http://sourceforge.net/projects/wine.../Wine%20Gecko/

then download the "winetricks" script

download also a paquet called cabextract or something like that, so winetricks can extract a .cab format file.

put the CAB of gecko in the folder
/home/$USER/.winetrickscache

then chmod +x winetricks

execute it:

./winetricks gecko

and thats all
