WINE: does ir run DOS programs?

I recently installed WINE on my Slack 10 and configured it using winsetuptk. I just need it to run certain programs from my College. I tried to test it by installing and running Borland C/C++ 2.0, an old DOS program I used last semester on my prog1 class. The installation ran smoothly, but when I tried to run the program the computer just froze. I had no other choice than turning it off manually.
I friend of mine suggested that the problem was that WINE was just meant to run Win9x programs, not DOS's. I thought it could, so my question is, can WINE run DOS programs??
If yes, what could have gone wrong?
If no, what can I use to run DOs programs?
Thanx.

I have ran dos programs but I have no clue why it would crash. WINE is beta and really isn't ready for most apps.

Just re-compile your programs with gcc or g++. They should work.

you could try out Dosemu

" DOSEMU stands for DOS Emulation, and allows you to run DOS and many DOS programs, including many DPMI applications such as DOOM and Windows 3.1, under Linux."
