Unhappy wine dead

I'm REALLY new to this stuff, so if I sound stupid, forgive me! I am running RedHat 9 (a friend gave me a copy) and I tried installing wine (from an RPM file). I then went into a console(?) and tried running "wine notepad" (I was told that is a good way to verify that wine installed correctly.) I get a 'Fragmentation error', so I tried to uninstall wine using "rpm -e wine", but nothing happened. (I was logged in as root) I then tried to reinstall wine, but it says it's already installed!?!?!? I give up!! HELP!!!!!

You can try typing whereis wine and that will show you where all the wine files are. You can then delete them and reinstall from scratch.
