WINE and some nasty errors to go with it...

I've tried running programs constantly on WINE with absolutely no avail. I've started making SOME headway getting Riven to run earlier this afternoon. Of course, that's the only program that runs.

I have no Win98 installation, just an XP, and I have no intentions of mounting an NTFS. Winecheck gives me a warning about my virtual registry, but I hear about people installing programs through WINE regardless of not having a previous windows installation.

These are the error messages I get when I try to run a program:

-------------------------------------------------------

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 12 (X_ConfigureWindow)
Serial number of failed request: 93
Current serial number in output stream: 98

-------------------------------------------------------

err:wave:OSS_WaveOutInit /dev/mixer1: No such device
err:wave:OSS_WaveInInit /dev/mixer1: No such device

-------------------------------------------------------

The wave device one shows up always but Riven has sound...either way, if it's possible to clean that up I would like to.

Anybody have any idea where to go with this?

Thanks!

The wave errors are harmless. You probably have a sound card that
supports two stereo outputs (like a soundblaster live!). I need to fix
that error message some day.

i thought the /dev/mixer1 error meant your soundcard doesn't support midi, or its not configured properly? thats what i remember reading a while back anyways on some sites...

Right on ~ I have an Audigy 2. The X Error still has me confused...

Did you download the latest wine release from winehq.com?

The wine rpm that came in my disk (redhat 8) never worked but I got a newer version from the official site and then I began to see programs really run.

Wow ~ The new kernel release from Redhat totally went nuts on me and I had to do a reinstall...anybody else having similar problems?

Anyways ~ I tried building Wine from the source but I get a segmentation fault every time I try to execute it, it hits an error while creating the registry.

I've tried the two newest versions of the RH9 RPM and both give me the same problems. I've configured the config file a million times, still no results.
