WINE and ITunes
Okay since i now have come to the conclusion that it single handedly cannot be done... i wanna hear what anyone else has attempted for this to work. I first tried it and copied the InstMsia.exe and then it still didnt work it said i needed stdole32.tlb so i searched for it on my xp box, i found stdole.tlb so i tried it. didnt work. So i did research and found that i could get a hold of stdole32.tlb on windows 95,98,ME,NT and 2000 so i found a 98 oem cd and built a computer and installed it. I spent about 3 more hours doing this after the 6hour wine install only to find out that iTunes still would not install. What really pissed me off is it didnt even give me a reason this time it just said that it couldnt finish installing. Did anyone get any farther than this. I am desperate to figure out how to get this to work. Im all about it. Please reply to this if u have tried it and got stuck or you want to try it or if u care at all about it.

I like XMMS kthnx :P. But in all honesty I would love iTunes on Linux, but this is as far as I went. I tried to run the app that was already installed on Windows. Didn't work. Tried to install through WineX, didn't work. So I say to myself "XMMS is good, I like it, and I don't really want iTunes all that much anyway." iTunes works happily on my iMac, I'm good. But if you ever figure out a method, I'd love to know ^_^

See the thing is, i dont have too much space on my laptop (the linux box) and with itunes i can litsen to the music thats on my desktop. XMMS is good but then i have to download all the music onto my laptop.

You don't have to copy all your songs over if you want to listen to them on your lappy. What I did was mounted the network drive of my other computer (presumabely a windows box.. if not, set up Samba on it whether it's a mac or linux box). From here you can just toss those songs into the XMMS playlist and it shouldn't copy it over, it'll just play it right across your network. There ya go, all is well. Oh, and some good news. Apple is slowly moving OS X to more and more linux based, they are also supposedly porting XCode, iTunes and other apps to linux. It doesn't matter for me because I've got my powerbook, but it's good news for everyone else!

Thanks, acctually what i did was... well first i have a server with about 45gigs that arent being used. so i made an nfs and mounted it to my laptop. so its all good and i have 50+ gb on my laptop. But itunes would still be nice. I hope they port them soon! It sortof defeats the purpose of *paying* for music on a completely open source system, but ya know. whatever, how ever it goes
