how do youinstall linux 8.0 when your os is windows xp and u cant delete xp cause your comp has a built in recovery disk that wont let you completely format your sysyem. Please help a brother out I hate xp. linux wont autoinstall for some crazy reason on xp
this is a hewett packard so it has no recovery cd its built straight into the comp which means i cant get rid of xp cause when i try to delete it or format the original programs just get reinstalled
Not to be offensive in any way I'd say why bother buying a computer with such feature, personally I've never bought any brand computer I'd rather build my own system withthe components I want and put OS I prefer.
OK, I think the recovery disk surely is simply the hidden partition XP makes on your hard disk.
You should be able to boot off a linux bootable CD, simply run fdisk for linux and you'll be able to partition your whole hard disk, including the hidden 'recovery' partition.
Remember, once this is done you will have no way at all to use XP again, unless you get a full version installable CD - the recovery CD that comes with your pc simply uses the hidden partition to 'fix' itself when it goes wrong.
if your computer is protected with a software recovery backup (e.g: go back) try this...
boot from a win98 floppy (sorry but this is the only command i know for this problem) and issue the command :fdisk /mbr
this will get rid of the master boot record !!!
if it is part of the mainboard (like recovery genius from jetway,
663AS, 867AS, V266A/B, mainboards) press ctrl + r and uninstall
the recovery genius. (or whatever it applies!)
