Windows xp 2002


I am trying to install software on my computer but when I get to the point of installing the sound it gives me a error message of:Sound Server Informational Error while initializing the sound driver. Device: default can not be opened for play back the sound server will continue using the null output device.....can you tell me if I need all sound card soft ware...when I play cd I hear the sound loud and clear.....please please help

Your subject line says "Windows XP 2002"..you ARE aware that this is a LINUX forum?? If this is a Windows question, it would be far better to take it to a Windows/Microsoft forum

And if this is a Linux system you need help with, you're going to have to provide some useful information. Like what version/distro of Linux, what kind of sound card, what "software" you're trying to install, and what you're doing when the error comes up. All we can gather from what you've said is "I'm trying to install something, and get a sound card error...HELP!"

This looks like a Linux error message though. I have seen it before. The rest of TB0ne's reply remains valid of course.
