what's wrong with amsn or gaim?

some windows programs will install and run in linux via wine (google wine - it's the first hit - wine hq), but i don't remember msn messenger being on the known run list.

Itīs easy, i am sure you would find tons of information if you search a little bit, www.google.com/linux .
The Basic on installing programs,
→→ if it is a rpm file, use the rpm command,
→→ if it is a bin file, then: ./<filename>
→→ if it is source: ./configure, make, make install
→ Use the man command to see the commandīs documentation, ex: man rpm

Trust us, it is by far easier to install Linux native Instant Messenger programmes than it is to try and get Windows versions to run under Linux satisfactorily.

Indeed, Sometimes I wish wine didn't exist, but then I realise these people wouldn't even /try/ linux if that were the case.
