Exclamation Windows Disk Read Error???

I helped my friend install Mandrake 9.2, and now whe the bootloader comes up, and he selects "windows" it says "Disk Read Error: Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to restart."

His bootloader autoconfigured these selections:
Linux
Failsafe
Windows
Floppy

What should I have him do?

are you using lilo or grub for bootloader.

if you can boot into linux

if lilo check your /etc/lilo.conf
then run lilo

if grub check your /boot/grub/grub.conf or /etc/grub.conf
i always used lilo

if you need windows right a way
just boot with win98 CD or boot disk with fdisk on it and run
fdisk /mbr

you will lose linux boot menu but that's ok,
put in mandrake boot press F1 on boot screen
type rescue
select re-install boot loader
select reboot
and bootloader is back

Hope this helps

Ok, I have successfully determined it is not his bootloader causing the problem (lilo).

Here is what is configured for the windows selection:
other=/dev/hda1
label="windows"
table=/dev/hda
