WindowMaker

Ok, I've been playing around with WindowMaker for awile now. The one thing I can not figure out is how to add icons to the main desktop. I've seen many screen shots with standard icons. How can I do this? I've been able to add dock programs... I have too many of those now. :)

Come on, Walter. You only posted the exact same question yesterday! Now, I imagine you've read the rules, please take particular notice of the 6th bullet point:
  • Do not post the same discussion in more than one forum. Duplicate discussions can be frustrating for other members. Try and pick the most relevant forum for your post. If you are unsure put it in Linux - General.
Some people won't have looked at either of your posts yet. Give it a little time. Now, if you really must, feel free to bump a thread so that it appears at the top of the 'new threads' list, but don't create new threads that are identical.

Thanks.

Hay, how about insead of writing a message slamming me, you try and respond to my question and help out? Many people don't read all the different groups so they don't always see all the questions...

Ok, best thing I can guess is try using ROX http://rox.sf.net

Cool

OK, I can suggest that you use Window Maker as your WindowManager for Gnome, and then simply stop the panel from running. I can suggest that you run nautilus in the background (I think that's how Gnome has the icons on the desktop)? Anything sound good so far? Oh, and just so that you know, I wasn't slamming you. You'll know when I'm slamming you! I was reminding you in a polite fashion about the rules, and that you shouldn't double post.

I'd even more than before recommend checking out ROX then.

You don't have to use the entire wm, just use the icons portion and pinboard? option. I don't use it, but there are loads of people who do, and many posts about it.

Cool

I'll take a look at it.... thanks.
