Window trails

I've asked this question in one form or another several times, never solved the problem though. Basically, no matter the window manager, whenever I move a window (especially when moving above another open apps window) I get a 'trail' of the window left behind. At the same time my processor usage shoots up to 100%.

What could cause this? Is this a common isuue? Should I just expect to have stuff like this until I upgrade (running 1.3 Athlon, 768MB, now)?

The cause - Probably your graphics card/graphics card drivers, make and model of your card might help pin-point the problem.

Oh no not back to this. I've posted soo many times about this. I have an ATI 9550.

I now have 3 different kernels installed on my system from trying to reconfigure so that ATI drivers will install properly -- eventually I just gave up, assumed they were configured properly and that it must be something else.

I'm using the latest, official fglrx driver.

What checks can I run to see if my driver is actually working for desktop? I know its working for 3D, i.e. opengl is working properly.

fglrxinfo says everythings fine, but that just goes on about opengl. ATI control panel says "Unknown" for card name and chip type, but has correct data for the opengl section. In gnome "System settings->Display", the hardware tab has "Unknown" for video device and monitor. I always assumed this "unknown" stuff was just a side-effect of the ATI drivers... could I be wrong?

Damn it, I'm soo stuck, I need help!

Cheers,
