Window Manager doesnt load
 

This only started happening the other day, and im not sure why. When i boot up i get the graphical log in screen (which means that X is running properly) but when i try and load a window manager (i tried KDE, twm, fvwm2 .etc) it doesnt load. The WM starts to load, screen goes black and then it just goes back to the login screen.

I recently upgraded to XFree86 4.3.0 but that went smoothly (less painful that i thought it would be actually) so im sure its not the cause.

Ive had a search through LQ, but i couldnt find anything. Any links to past questions / solutions to my little problem would be greatly appreciated!

(also im not sure if this is significant, but an error is reported saying that there is no space left on a device ?)

I had a similar thing happen when I tried to install Enlightenment from source. When I manually added it as a session to kdm it would just revert to the log in screen after a black screen.
Maybe you have problems with the session entries, I think they're stored in /etc/X11R6/wmsessions.d (wish I was in Linux to check)
