Hello all..
I running MDK10 and trying to install Win4Lin.. but I can't load the Windows installation fils..
If i choose Setup from CD device it just says "can not find setup directory" and if i choose to install from a directory it says "cannot start xterm" anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

Ive had no experience with Win4Lin, but the second error message leads me to believe that you may need to install xterm for it to work. Try it and see. Another suggestion might be that you arent using the right version of windows for win4lin, or maybe not the right language?

Sorry.. it dosent work.. I installed xterm when i first saw the error messege.. but it dident work afterthat either so.. I can start xterm, iv tried to setup win4lin from there to but i get the same messege..

I notice you are from sweden. Are you using the swedish language version of Windows? Also, what version of windows are you running, check to see if its compatable

mm yes.. i'm using a swedish win98 disk.. now then I think about it.. that may be the problem..

okay. I have win4lin working just fine on mandrake 10 with an english version on win 98se - so it is possible Installing win4lin is an extended (4 step) process and I'm not sure where you are at. I'll assume you got through the initial install okay? You have a working win4lin kernel and have the main core of win4lin installed. Now you want to install the win 98 media - that also needs to be done as root if I remember (my last couple of installs have been just copied across to an upgrade install, so I haven't installed by the book in a while) The install media step is usually pretty easy as I remember... I just can't remember how it was done I'll have to look...

Okay, you run winsetup as root user. You select the system wide admin option. Then load windows CD... Is this where it's cracking up???

Once you get the cd media installed onto your pc you can run winsetup as a normal user to install your personal copy of windows...

I don't use win4lin much these days as crossover office now runs all the windows apps I use...

another suggestion would be to join the win4lin users list....

ok.. I'v come a little bit longer now. Now the problem is that i need a boot floppy, and my floppy drive nearly dosen't work.
So I choose to copy the bootfiles from the cdrom, then it starts but when it says 100% and begging to copy the cdrom
everything just hangs.
Any suggestions?

I think you can use a floppy image on the hard drive somehow... You can download windows bootdisks from www.bootdisk.com I can't remember exactly how it was done now tho... I'll try asking on the win4lin list.

ok.. I give it a try..

I have it running now. But If i try to open nautilus (gnomes file handler) the whole system hangs?
anyone know whats that can be?

hmmm, you seem to be having many problems with this, and since this is a commerical product they shouldnt be there. Have you tried changing distributions?

You could also try looking on the Win4Lin site to see if there are any patches.
