I wanted to see how win4lin worked.
I downloaded an rpm from a gentoo site.
Installed it , checked according to the trouble shooter, seems OK.
I downloaded the win4lin kernel and the other small file from netraverse.
clicked on both, and my lilo menu shows win4lin.
I read a lot of stuff about relinking and other things, which I didn't do, because I don't understand.
I read a lot, trust me, but don't get it
so, ----here is something missing, I suppose----> because when I try to load win98, he doesn't.

this is the part I need some * spoonfeeding*.

sorry, I am an ex-windows user, and not to good with linux ( yet )

I don't know where you downloaded the RPM, but win4lin is not a free program, which may be part of your problem. You need to purchase the win4lin installer from http://www.netraverse.com/products/win4lin50/

If you purchase a download, you will receive an activation code. The netraverse site has detailed installation instructions. The installer will also automatically grab and install the correct kernel for your system as long as you are running Mandrake, Suse, or RedHat. If you use Debian, you will have to manually patch the kernel following instructions from netraverse.

Win4lin is great. I use it daily and I can say everything is fast and stable (as stable as Windows normally is). Also, netraverse support is great if you run into problems.

I realise that win4lin is not freeware, but I wanted to try it a few weeks, to see if it was usefull to me.
My second comp has win98, not that I want it, but because of work.
If I was happy with ( read: excited about) it, I wouldn't mind paying
I looked at netraverse, but see nowhere a trial version.

It comes without a licence, so ??
they also have kind of copy of the install, which I think is ment as a piece of documentation.
Don't know for sure, I suppose you can figure it out better than me.
