Win32 Codecs

I have used URPMI to install all of the win32 codecs so that Kaffeine could play my .wmv files, and they all seem to have worked. It plays my .avi files and everything, but my .wmv files still don't play except for the audio. I'm running Mandriva 2005 LE, any suggestions?

WMV

Ok, I got the .wmv files to play, but still when I play a DVD it doesn't go past the "The views and comments contained blah blah blah" screen. Then it just stops, any suggestions?

Do you have libdvdcss installed?

dudeman41465 09-15-2005 07:47 PM

Awesome, I got the DVDs to work, I installed libdvdcss. The .wmv files only played once though, after I installed xine-win32, but every time I install that it just bugs out Kaffeine and I have to manually just turn the computer off. Is the "jpackage" part necessary on URPMI? I'm kind of confused, I love to watch videos on ebaumsworld, and they don't work now, lol.

Better yet download xine and then once you do Ill give you the link to the win32 codecs ;) its much better than Kaffine

Question for you, did you purchase mandrake or is it freeware?

dudeman41465 09-15-2005 08:42 PM

It's free, the website has mirrors for people to download it. www.mandriva.com

well the only reason i was wondering was because maybe you should try xandros its pretty easy to use and its pretty slick

Cool

Cool, I'm just wondering what I did wrong, I've got this exact distro on my desktop and it plays my .wmv files just fine.

Copy

If I copied to a cd the xine directory that kaffeine uses off my desktop pc onto this one and just replaced it, shouldn't that just put in all the codecs and my desktop uses?

deathbyswiftwin 09-16-2005 06:11 AM

you prolly could just dont replace any congif files xine may have made

Problem solved. Apparently there was just some instability problem with my version of kaffeine because at times it wouldn't let me pan through the timeline or interact with any of the buttons, but the movie would still play. All I did was uninstall kaffeine and install mplayer, which is prettier might I add, and everything works perfect, including my web content.
