Cool Win2K and Linux

I know I am probably taking my life in my hands but I need an answer to a question. I have been advised that it is possible to have Linux running through an emulator window on Windows 2K. I cannot find anything online to help me set this up. As I use Win2k in connection with work it is my primary o/s. Using dual boot is not an option if I need to swap quickly between both o/s. Thus the need to be able to bring up a window which connects me to Linux. We have a similar option at work using a TUN emulator which enables us to bring up a window and work in UNIX environment, whilst still maintaining the Win2K o/s. Does anyone have an answer or can they point me in the right direction. thanks. email answers would be appreciated.

VMware will let you run multiple OSs at the same time on one physical computer.
