Win XP logging into Samba
I have a problem with my XP machine logging into a Samba PDC. I have the lastest version running on a RedHat 8.0 box. The funny thing about the situation is that my XP machine can join the domain, but when I go to login to it I recieve a no Domain Controller error.
Windows 2K joins and can login fine, but for some reason XP cannot. Anyone have any advice? |
Can you ping the Samba sever from your Winodws Machine?
|
Yes. If I login locally to the XP machine I can ping the server and even browse to shared directories. I can also do a net use and map drives but I can't login from the prompt. It's really wierd.

There is an extra step to adding Windows XP.

Good article thanks for the info. I got a reply from the forum at JustLinux.com which said you have to change the registry for XP to be able to login. Here's the change:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Netlogon\Parameters] "requiresignorseal"=dword:00000000 For anyone else having trouble with XP logging into Samba. You have to make the registry change before you join the domain. At least I had to. Thanks to everyone who replied. |
Woops just read the whole article and it said the same thing. I read your post jamrock after I just got it working and didn't read the whole article at IBM. Thanks again for the info. Hope I can return the favor sometime.
