Will unix software always run on linux?

This might be an obvious question, but if a program requires a unix operating system, will it run on linux? I ask because I have a list of software and some requirements say "linux and unix", but some just say "unix". Will those that just say "unix" not run on linux? The software is all network based.

Thank you for replies

The quick answer is "not always". The fact they specifically mention linux separately makes me think not.

Generally installing on "unix" involves compiling from source, so depending on what tools they used to compile the code, it might or might not.

Unix tools available as source code have a good chance to run on Linux, if it can be compiled. This mainly depends on library dependencies. As a matter of fact, even a Linux tool will not necessarily run on any other/different Linux system, if some library dependencies are missing or if the platform is different. A Linux PPC binary will nor run on Linux i386. The term "UNIX software" or "Linux software" in itself is a very broad range.
