wiki like, central data storage

Hi there,

I'm looking for something that has a wiki type of feel, but allows me to store files in a central place. I have a bunch of users all over the country, and I'd like to have a place for everyone to put documents (like word, spreadsheets, txt files) into one spot and get them all from the same spot.

I was thinking maybe something with joomla may have something for me, but I'd like to know what else is out there that I can use.

I thought FTP for a moment, but that is kind of ugly. Looking for a more "elegant" solution, that's perferably webbased.

My only real requirement is that there is a some sort of authentication, so the public can't view the docs publicly.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Next step up from ftp would be a simple webserver for static content, like WebFS (Web File System).

WebFS has an option (-b on command line) to specify a user/password combination for access.

Edit: not so sure about uploading files tho'....

well, i guess it helps while searching if you use the right words.... such as looking up "document management" on freshmeat. There's a ton of them there.
