Widgets?

I am a newbie in Linux but am having a lot of fun with it. I have noticed on some desktop screenshots of other users that they seem to be running small aps similar to the widgets available for Mac OSX Tiger. I saw some apps indicating memory use, weather, CPU use, disk use, etc. How is this done and can it be downloaded and installed easily?

Thanks
Cobus

Some of then can be added by right clicking on a blank area of the panel and selecting 'Add to Panel' ... there is also a well-known collection of them, but I can't remember the name of it right now. ... Someone will come and say it soon.

Edit: I knew it would come to me shortly ... Desklets
