Why won't my wine version update?

I am following the steps mentioned in the guide provided via WineHq.

Here is my process:

> ./configure

> make depend

> make
then enter the root password

# make install

Exit superuser or root, then type ...

> winecfg //

> wine --version //

My wine --version still reports 0.9.12 even though I installed 0.9.29

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 wrc.man /usr/local/share/man/man1/wrc.1
/usr/bin/install -c wrc /usr/local/bin/wrc
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/dcurrier/Desktop/temp/wine-0.9.29/tools/wrc'
/usr/bin/install -c ./winemaker /usr/local/bin/winemaker
/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 winemaker.man /usr/local/share/man/man1/winemaker.1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/dcurrier/Desktop/temp/wine-0.9.29/tools'

/home/dcurrier/.wine updated successfully.

Installation complete for now. Good luck (this is still beta software).
If you have problems with WINE, please read the documentation first,
as many kinds of potential problems are explained there.
dcurrier@box:~/Desktop/temp/wine-0.9.29$ wine --version
Wine 0.9.12

that's the problem I'm facing right now. As far as how to post anything else, let me know what you are looking for and where I can find it and I will gladly supply it.

I've done make uninstall, removed all dirs, re installed from source and I'm still getting the version as 0.9.12

Try the command:
Code:
$ whereis wine
Perhaps there exist multiple wine executables on your system?

This is the output I get

dcurrier@box:/usr/bin$ whereis wine
wine: /usr/bin/wine /usr/lib/wine /usr/X11R6/bin/wine /usr/bin/X11/wine /usr/local/bin/wine /usr/local/lib/wine /usr/include/wine /usr/share/wine /usr/share/man/man1/wine.1.gz

I've tried doing a make uninstall ...

is there a way to get rid of all these other instances of wine and then start from scratch?

Thanks again for the feedback

First test if they are indeed all executables. For example with the file command.
