Why no Adobe Reader 11 for linux?
 

Why is it still 9.4?

Adobe Linux versions have commonly lagged behind Windows versions.

Given that Adobe is abandoning Linux support for Flash, it would not be inconceivable that they are considering doing the same for Reader.

It's no great loss. Native Linux PDF readers are superior; I much prefer Okular. In Windowsland, Foxit Reader is preferable to the Adobe Reader, which has become quite the kludge.

Not always compatible. Acrobat Reader (actuallyyyy, it is Adobe Reader. Not Acrobat Reader; Acrobat is Acrobat Professional. Not sure when that changed.) is required at times, for example, filling out forms.

Also, I really like Acrobat Pro. The Tools are good and so is the batch scripting! Although, it seems we'll never see it on linux.

I choose Okular instead.

It is 9.5.1 actually.

Adobe reader is required for filling out certain PDF forms. This cannot be done reliably in a ny other software.

Now the fact that this filling thing has its quirks and sometimes just doesnt work in Adobe Reader its another story (a web app would work so much better for this purpose, but well...).

For just viewing PDFs you can use evince (its really good all around), okular if you are into kde. There is a new pdf reader, qpdfview that is very fast and actually has some form functionality - it is in beta stage.

On Windows there is Foxit and Sumatra PDF.

You can edit pdf files with PDFEdit. I've only used it on simple one page forms. I've also used a program called xournal which does the same and gives the option to Export as PDF. PDFEdit seemed like it had a lot more options but it took some time to figure out how to use. For something simple, editing or filling out a one page form it should be pretty easy. There is pretty good documentation available.
