My no.1 complain about Linux with its KDE is that its display is not as sharp as MS windows. It looks somehow the fonts on Linux (Fedora 2) is blurred a bit, (not as crystal clear on MS windows).
I wonder if it is my configuration issues or if it is a the nature of Linux fonts rendering engine.

sounds like you need new video card drivers. I dont understand why it is not as sharp. it should be better. that is something linux brags about. better looking. find some good drivers and maybe do some tweaking on them.
the display in linux should look just as nice as in windows. make sure you have the correct driver for your video card and that all video settings are correct.
Hi ieeestd802,
did you experiment with the font settings? Fonts used to be a bit tricky to figure out in linux, they aren't anymore though.
Try experimenting with anti-aliasing in the KControlCentre (Appearance and Themes -> Fonts).
Also, have you installed / used the Bitstream Fonts? Those are really high quality free fonts (and should be installed by default, just maybe not used). Try using those, if you experience problems with other fonts. You can also download Windows fonts and install them, if you dont feel comfortable with the other ones.
There is still a lot of documentation about fonts on the internet from the time that fonts used to be a problem. Google is your friend.
Why I cannot find option of "anti-aliasing in the KControlCentre (Appearance and Themes -> Fonts).", I am using a Fedora 2 installation.
It only list the following options:
Font Rendering:
Monochrome
Best Shapes
Best Contrast
Subpixel smoothing (LCDS).
Did I look at wrong place ?
Thanks.
(symptom of my problem is that the display on MS Windows looks much much much sharp than Linux, on Linux everything blurs, if I choose a font size small than 10, it is almost not readable. )
Hi ieeestd802,
let's make sure we are actually investigating the right thing: when you look at screenshots of a windows installation, do the fonts rendered by windows look blur also? Because, obviously, if they do you dont have a font but a graphics driver problem.
On the topic of adjusting fonts:
Its weird that there is no such option there. IIRC fedora core 2 came with KDE 3.2 (right?), I am almost certain that this was configured there. You can try searching the control centre for fonts. Maybe its some place else, I dont think so though. Maybe there is a fedora way of configuring fonts (it would, probably, be quite Gnome centric though)? Is there something in the start-here folder on the desktop? (Sorry that I am being so vague, I have not used Fedora in a while).
I hope this helps, post if you cant figure it out, I will be glad to help,
- drowstar
