What hardware have you got?

5 minutes is definitely too long for this box,
even with RedHat <beg> ... I don't know what's up with NVidia drivers and slow boots, but from my experience I'd think about looking at a misconfigured netwrok. Like the box is trying to look up it's own DNS entry and fails, 'til it times out. Check your logfiles in /var/log Do a ls -ltr /var/log and look at the files at the bottom of that list first, they are the most recently written to ones.... Cheers, Tink Cheers, Tink |
Which files I have to look. I could not able to open any file.
It is giving that file is not readable. Must be network DNS setting problem. Thats why it is long time. regards, bajaj [naresh@ict-106-53 log]$ ls boot.log iptraf messages.1 rpmpkgs.4 up2date.1 boot.log.1 ksyms.0 messages.2 sa up2date.2 boot.log.2 ksyms.1 messages.3 samba up2date.3 boot.log.3 ksyms.2 messages.4 scrollkeeper.log up2date.4 boot.log.4 ksyms.3 mysqld.log secure uucp canna ksyms.4 mysqld.log.1 secure.1 vbox cron ksyms.5 mysqld.log.2 secure.2 wtmp cron.1 ksyms.6 mysqld.log.3 secure.3 wtmp.1 cron.2 lastlog mysqld.log.4 secure.4 XFree86.0.log cron.3 maillog news spooler XFree86.0.log.old cron.4 maillog.1 pgsql spooler.1 XFree86.1.log cups maillog.2 privoxy spooler.2 zebra dmesg maillog.3 rpmpkgs spooler.3 fax maillog.4 rpmpkgs.1 spooler.4 gdm mailman rpmpkgs.2 squid httpd messages rpmpkgs.3 up2date |
hi there,
I've had this problem too until I found several other threads that were dealing with the same problem. I'm running RH 9.0 with a Geforce 2 MX for which I've downloaded the drivers for. It actually does boot up pretty fast (i've got runlevel 5 set up) and it takes less than 10 seconds from the actual Hostname login: screen to the splash screen of NVIDIA and then the login prompt for x windows. You might have used the wrong driver maybe? Not sure. However, I'm sure this is fixable because you stated that this problem occurred after you've reinstalled RH 9.0 the second time....I mean, the worst that could happen is to start totally fresh again if we don't find the reason for this problem. Hehe Hope this helps! |
