Question Why is /var/log/packages empty?

I can't upgrade packages by upgradepkg because / var / log / packages is completely empty, what can I do now?

OS is Slackware 14.1

/var/log/packages is not the reason you can’t upgrade. v. 14.1 is past EOL and is no longer supported. There is nothing to update/upgrade.

There is still patchs for 14.0, 14.1 and 14.2 all 32 and 64 bits.

cesarsj, there is an old thread about same problem here :https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-empty-420444/

I’m just repeating what I’ve heard. Patches are not packages, and 14.2 is not 14.1

The OP asked how to upgrade because /var/log/packages was empty. My analysis is that's not the reason they can't upgrade -- rather, it's because there's no upgrade available because 14.1 has reached EOL and is no longer supported.

You are pointing out that 14.1 is still available and could be installed. I don't doubt that's true, but such installation would be "as good as it gets" for that version, and could not then be upgraded.

If the OP is asking how to move from 14.1 to 14.2, I'm not sure of the answer to that. I believe I've heard others say to backup what's important and do a clean install. Maybe the OP needs to clarify -- I could be completely misunderstanding them.

The page at slackware.com you linked to is, I believe, about what's being done to create 14.3.
