why is mp3 encoding so slow in linux ?
I've just encoded a CD using lame tonight on athlon xp 1900+ just after encoding it using itunes on my power book g4 867Mhz.
In itunes, it's a matter of a few minutes but on Linux, it takes almost 4 times as long. Is there a much faster encoder available (that pipes the wav files to the encoder for example) or is it itunes that uses widely quicker encoding techniques ? |
Have you tryed "lame"? It is standard package for mp3 encoding.

I think power book RISC processor is much powerfull then athlon xp 1900... it is about the computer. I've just used ripping tool and encoded on Sempron 2400 (1.6GHz) with 6.0x-7.0x speed. (when in background I've also encoded avi to DVD ;) ) |
