why does azureus run so slowly

The problem is I cant get it to run fast enough to download anything. The max it would go up to is 200kb on a 1mb adsl connection. Most of the time it's at zero. Why is this happening when it's upnp compatible hence it tells my router to open whatever port it needs. I get green smilies which means everything is fine. also i uninstalled iptables. Right now I have a torrent with a total speed of 47.7kbps but am getting 0. now the total speed has gone down to serveral hundred bits a sec. whats going on?

The speed of your downloads depends mostly on how fast the people you're downloading from are giving the file you're trying to receive.

I often find that with torrents that have many people sharing, it takes Azureus several hours or so to get up to speed - my guess is that there's such an overhead with control packets that none of the data packets can get through. As an example, I had one download that was only up to about 20k/s after about an hour, but two hours later was screaming at 50MB/s. If you're consistently getting zero transfer rates, you may want to open the console and look for error message there, and/or open up the statistics panel so you've got more information with which to diagnose the cause.
