Why can't my system shutdown?

If I reboot my system, it works OK.
But, if I shutdown it, the system will not shutdown.It stops at this line of output:
acpi_power_off called                                  [ok]
and the last line of "_" will blank for ever.

try to disable acpi
acpi=off in the boot loader (e.g. /boot/grub/menu.1st the put the argument in the line with 'kernel')
