Why can't I play may MP3 and media files in RH 9.0

I am unable to play MP3 files through the "xmms" Media Player avaiable.

Whenever I try to run an MP3, it just says that due to some patent problem the support for MPEG Layer and MP3 has been removed from this application by Red Hat

Now what can I do to rum MP3, RealPlayer and other media files and movies on Linux RH 9. Is there any other rpm avaiable for playing these media files ....

To play RealMedia files, you need RealPlayer. It will also play MP3s perfectly well, but there are other MP3 players with more advanced features.

You probably want to install mplayer and it's browser plugin as well.

I'm not sure you can get them working in RH9, but I have them working in Fedora Core 1 (and 3).

I can't recall being able to get them to work in RH9. The latest release is Fedora Core 4, so Fedora Core 3 should be pretty solid now. I am about to switch to Fedora Core 3 for my most used distro (I need to re-install Gentoo as I think I need to change the size of some of my partitions first).
