Which version should i download for my AMD Duron processor?

I want to download and install linux, but I keep getting stuck on which version i need to download that is compatible with my AMD Duron processor. I also heard that Linux is safer that MS windows, is that true?

Thanks,
Sir Loin

You are less likely to get virus's, spyware, and hacked by using linux. You can download any i386 based distrobution.

Another good website with lots of information about the various distributions is distrowatch. Try and stay clear of Linux distributions that run by default as the administrator (root), they are easier to hack into than normal Linux distributions.

Oh, ok. Thanks again for your help.

I was thinking of downloading Fedora, do I need to download all four CD's?

MisterESauce 02-06-2005 01:41 PM

you'll need at least the first 3 if you install exactly the same way i did, all 4 otherwise. just get all 4 to be safe...

Oh. Thanks for your help. When they're all finished, how do I burn them to a CD? Is there a special program I should download, I'm new to all of this Linux ISO burning/downloading, sorry for all of the questions.

MisterESauce 02-06-2005 04:13 PM

any decent burning software SHOULD be able to burn an iso image but nero 6 and alcohol 120 are a few of the best IMO. with either you should be able to right-click the iso image and select "open with nero/alcohol/etc".

EDIT: nice s/n btw :D

Sir Loin 02-06-2005 05:19 PM

I have Nero, I should be able to do the rest, but thanks for all of your help.

thank you, you're the first to compliment my sn.
