re-doing an old IBM thinkpad, need some windows apps but don't know which version of Wine to download. I have these OS'es. Please Correct me if I'm wrong:
Absolute Linux (Slackware)
Slackware
Ubuntu
Damn Small Linux (Knoppix)
PCLinux Minime (????????)
For DSL and PCLinux, which Wine package do I need to download?
Wine is typically available using the package manager. (Although it just recently went to v1.0 and not all distros will have the latest version.)
You might also be interested in Crossover (http://codeweavers.com) This is the commercial version of WINE and sometime will do things the WINE will not.
I only need wine to run MS Office 2003 and/or 2007, and some medical stuff. I am reworking this for my mother and trying to ease the transition into Linux. And in case her medical dictionaries and the like won't work on Open Office
I am also not expecting this computer to have an internet connection (OLD thinkpad, no lan/wlan jacks/cards) anytime soon, so updating via synaptic pkg manager won't be possible. I'll get a wireless card based around the support for the card in the OS that I manage to install later.
thanks aus9 for the GRUB tutorial, its been a while since I've implemented my own splash image, you saved me a bit of searching!
