Which version of alpine do I install on RHEL 5.5.56?

I'd like to install alpine as a mail reader, so I can get mail from cron jobs. I do not have the need to read mail from outside the machine or send mail outside the machine.

But I'm concerned that installing a newer version of alpine will hose some mission critical software somehow.

Any ideas?

If I install via yum and the RHEL5 repos, will I be ok? The RHEL5 repos are the only ones configured on my machine at the moment.
I searched for 'email' using yum and didn't find any email readers. Only MTAs and related utils.
All I need is a text GUI, not a graphical GUI.

you are paying redhat a lot of cash $$$ to keep this older rhel5 install at the very old 5.5 ( the current in the 5 series is 5.10 - 3 years newer than 5.5 )

you might want to use the support from redhat that you are paying EXTRA for

We are not paying Redhat a dime since another vendor installed this system with their own software on top of it. The vendor has to test their software with a specific OS config extensively. So they vendor just doesn't upgrade us for any reason.
