But isn't LimeWire an own network too? I am not a crack in these things... but I remember that I installed it on Win several years ago... I think it was a lousy Java-Programm back then... slower than slow ... that may be fixed now, but... what about the network? Is it the one from eMule ?

limewire is a gnutella client. more than likely you'll have trouble insatlling java to make it work, so don't bother. it's a bit naff imho anyway.
for a pure gnutella client, try gtk-gnutella.sf.net (gnome) or qtella.net (kde)
alternatively there's gift.sf.net which supports a LOT of networks, kazaa, gnutella, opennap, openft... it's a little odd to configure and understand, but worth the hassle definitely.
bittorrent is also very good, but noticably different in concept to other p2p networks,
