Which media player is better?
Can you let me know which media player is better for RH9 user?
I like to play some movie and music on my RH9, any suggestions? Thanks a lot. |
For music , definately go with XMMS. I'm kinda of new, so I dunno about movies. If real player is installed, try it.

Mentioned thousands upon thousands of times on this site, for movies, use mplayer. www.mplayerhq.hu

i really really like mplayer i think the first "stable" version just came out but its really been stable for a very long time and i just love it for everything, i use xmms for music but others will tell you that you should use something else, it has some bad code as far as hdd access and so some other players will work better if your music skips while under a heavy load but if you have a pretty fast computer that wont ever be a problem

what i understand it to be, is that the backends for xmms were developed for the old style schedulers, and with cons work and the new 2.6 schedulers where desktop performance is becoming a more major focus it just doesnt play as nice as some other media players, it tends to access in smaller chunks that happen more often instead of larger chunks which causes the anticipatory scheduler to halt for about 9ms after each read, well xmms doesnt access every 9ms but it does access quite often meaning that with the delay xmms can cut hdd output in effect choking itself, this is just as i understand it though...i could be wrong

try Mplayer or VLC. I use MPlayer myself. for mp3s I use XMMS but only because I don't know how to make a playlist in Mplayer and save it.
