which email client?

I need an email client that would mostly be used to just sort/filter incoming mail and start appropriate perl 'scripts' afterwards.
it should run in shell.

Can you please recommend one?
Thanks.

Hi,

although it is not really an "email client" in the commonly used sense, procmail will do what you describe.

my uninformed opinion is that claws mail has loads of features and plugins, probably also the ability to execute scripts.

edit: oops, i missed the "run in shell" bit. so, not relevant.

I would think this could be achieved with a mutt/procmail setup.

i use Thunderbird as I have it on all 3 platforms. OSx, Linux, MS Windows. this makes for a unified simple interface with limited differences between each of the platforms. It also makes it easier for me to support my family.
